"Sweden received more asylum applications than any other country in the world apart from the United States in the first six months of this year, with Iraqis making up the bulk of requests. The United States led the asylum application league in absolute terms, with 26,800 requests received. Per head of population number of asylum seekers was much higher in the case of Sweden (population 9 million) than in the US (population 301 million)."
