"West Lancashire District Council and Lancashire County Council have teamed up to launch a new campaign to encourage people to use free internet access in their local library if they want to get in touch with their local council. The campaign will be launched on Tuesday 30 September. The six libraries in West Lancashire run by the county council – in Tarleton, Burscough, Ormskirk, Parbold, Skelmersdale and Up Holland – offer people the chance to use the “People’s Network” computers to get internet access."

The results of a comprehensive shake up of council targets and priorities were published yesterday by the Government. The priorities - agreed in partnership with central government - show the pattern of issues across England that councils will now have to grapple with over the next three years.

Councils will now need to devote considerable energy - as many of them already do - to ensuring their communities feel safer, that tackling serious violence and anti-social behaviour is a major priority, and that tackling unemployment and teenage pregnancy is comprehensively addressed.

Four significant obstacles to improved relations between police and Arab-American communities were observed: mutual distrust between Arab-American communities and law enforcement, lack of cultural awareness among law enforcement officers, language barriers, and residents’ concerns about immigration status. The study reveals some promising practices for addressing these obstacles."

"A police force is handing out Cop Swap cards featuring its own officers for children to collect to boost community relations.The cards show a picture of a police officer, police community support officer (PCSO) or a community warden, their rank and identity number.The game is played in the same way as Top Trumps with four categories; pedal power, problem solving, agility and strength.The person has scored themselves for each of these categories and everyone's total is 100.Hampshire Police trialled the cards in Cosham last year and has now introduced them to the Fratton Safer Neighbourhoods Teams."
