"The launch of the Muslim Chaplain’s Association (MCA) at London’s Islamic Cultural Centre on May 9, was welcomed by the imams, the Muslim community and prison authorities. Director General of HM Prison Service, Phil Wheatley, supporting the launch of MCA, acknowledged that the imams (known as Muslim chaplains) are providing a valuable service in the prison and “it is important to support Muslim chaplains in prisons.” He later told The Muslim News the support that Muslim chaplains are giving in prisons “is crucial.” He rejected allegations by the media and some ministers that the imams were radicalising Muslim prisoners."
