Police and General Aviation Security / Officer.com, 15 July 2008
http://www.officer.com/web/online/Technology/Police-and--General-Aviation-Security/20$42275
Kenneth J. Solosky
"In the United States, there are about 650 airports certified for scheduled airline service. That number is very small in comparison to the approximately 19,200 landing facilities available to general aviation. Who uses these other facilities? The short answer is general aviation, which is all civilian flying except for scheduled airline service. The security measures taken at large airports are well documented and well known. The security checkpoints, x-ray machines, liquid prohibitions and the removal of shoes are all well-known and a dreaded part of airline travel. How exactly is security handled at the small general aviation airports? How can law enforcement partner with their local airport and help make the entire aviation system secure?"

Burdens of secrecy / Open Democracy, 18 June 2008
http://www.opendemocracy.net/article/the-burdens-of-secrecy
Sandra Bell
"The loss of sensitive documents, their discovery in a public place, their delivery to a media organisation, the headline exposure of official carelessness - all this is becoming a familiar ritual in British public life. The second week of June 2008 brought a bounty in the form of two such episodes. ... The question may seem far less important than the issues of public security and official accountability and competence apparently raised by the loss of such documents. But it can be explored a little further by highlighting how the protection of "official information" can easily become a problem for those responsible, and even invite such unwanted "revelations"."

Peter Cochrane's Blog: Airport insecurity / Peter Cochrane Silicon.com 29 April 2008
http://management.silicon.com/itdirector/0,39024673,39209739,00.htm
"We have always relied on the vast majority of people being good and honest - and the reality is we still do. The new systems and equipment deployed and being developed to pre-qualify us before we even get to the airport give an added reassurance. But the reality is the detection of specific objects by scanners has some way to go before it approaches 100 per cent reliability, and full automation is absolutely essential. As always, to spot banned items we are dependent on people's alertness, concentration and diligence, which are all extremely variable."

The Meaning of criminal intelligence
International Journal of Police Science and Management, Volume: 9 Issue: 4, December 2007, Page(s): 336-340
http://www.atypon-link.com/VAT/doi/abs/10.1350/ijps.2007.9.4.336
Steven David Brown
"The concept of intelligence has outgrown the confines of State activity aimed at foreign powers. Intelligence-led policing is now officially part of the EU Hague Programme for establishing an area of freedom, security and justice, but there is little consensus on what the word ‘intelligence’ actually means. This article seeks to arrive at a practical and comprehensive definition which is applicable to both security and law enforcement."
