Going west - Baltic crime groups expand and diversify
Jane's Intelligence Review, 14 March 2007

"Organised crime groups from the Baltics have increasingly made use of their organisational skills and the benefit of free movement throughout the EU to expand their activities. A Europol-led investigation (Operation Baltico) into an Estonian organised crime group alleged to have carried out armed robberies on jewellery stores in Europe, and particularly northern Italy, led to 35 European arrest warrants being issued by an Italian judge on 21 February. The warrants, for 34 Estonian nationals and one Lithuanian, were executed in Estonia, Lithuania, Finland, Spain, France and Germany." [Sub required]
