"Children with intellectual disabilities face considerable challenges in life, including the fact that they are more likely to be victims of abuse, according to academic researcher from the 1960s onwards. This may in part be due to a perception on behalf of their abusers that they are 'easier targets', but also because their daily routines bring them into contact with many adults that they depend on for assistance, care and education."
