"Police have been given broad new powers to tap phones and search the emails and text messages of anyone connected to child pornography suspects. The Senate passed the Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Amendment Bill 2007, which extends existing laws that give agencies the power to spy on people believed to be in contact with suspected criminals."
