"Although some adolescents are more violent than others, and some neighbourhoods experience more crime and violence than others, the factors that mitigate violent and criminal behaviour are largely unknown. This Research in Brief describes the results of a study that examined the neighbourhood conditions, individual characteristics, and family characteristics that contribute to adolescent violence. Results from the study work to erase misleading stereotypes about race and violence, emphasising the importance of neighbourhood conditions and social processes in contributing to adolescent violence."
