"This consultation paper (‘CP’) is intended to build on a previous Law Commission report on bribery and corruption (‘our previous report’). We now have Parliamentary and Government reactions to that report and its appended draft Bill. We have been asked by the Home Office to consider what changes to our previous recommendations would be desirable. Therefore, in this CP we will examine the criticisms made of our earlier report and evaluate how best they can be accommodated. Further, since the publication of our previous report, the United Kingdom (‘the UK’) has signed a series of international Conventions relating to bribery and corruption. It will therefore be of equal importance to ensure our proposals are consistent with the UK’s international obligations."
