“Nearly all the 14,000 refugees Australia will accept in 2008-09 will come from Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Among the intake will be 500 places specifically set aside for refugees from Iraq, with 600 places already earmarked this year specifically for Iraqis who worked with Australian forces. Immigration Minister Chris Evans said the regional allocations for Australia's humanitarian program had been decided after considering the views of the community, non-government organisations and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.”
